Shervin Hajipour Wins Grammy Awards for the Best Song in the Social Change Category

With over 110,000 submissions and 40 million views in less than two days, Shervin Hajipour’s song “Baraye” won the 2023 Grammy Awards for best song in the social change category. 

The song “Baraye” highlights the messages and rage of brave Iranians fighting decades of oppression under the Islamic Republic. Baraye, released during the third week of the “women, life, freedom” protests, has become the anthem of the Iranian Revolution and echoed worldwide. 

Hajipour (25) was arrested on 29 September 2022, days following the release of his song, and was made to remove his song from Instagram by the IRGC security agents. However, on 4 October 2022, Hajipour was released on bail “so that his case could go through the legal process, according to the prosecutor of the northern province of Mazandaran, Mohammad Karimi.
