Iran’s United Opposition Figures Release “Mahsa Charter”

Prominent Iranian opposition figures Masih Alinejad, Reza Pahlavi, Hamed Esmaeilion Shirin Ebadi, and Abdulla Mohtadi have announced the formation of the Alliance for Freedom and Democracy & Freedom in Iran (ADFI) and the publication of the “Mahsa Charter.”

In a statement on their website, they explain:

“Alliance for Democracy and Freedom in Iran (ADFI) is an alliance of individuals, organizations, political parties, and other entities who are committed to the “Mahsa” Charter" as a framework for cooperation. The alliance pursues the non-violent overthrow of the Islamic Republic regime and the establishment of a secular democracy that serves the will of all Iranian citizens”.

The ADFI has specified common values for a democratic Iran within the “Mahsa Charter,”  including democratic governance, human rights, human dignity, justice, peace and security, environmental sustainability, and economic transparency.

The ADFI has also emphasized the following:

  • The alliance pursues the non-violent overthrow of the Islamic Republic regime and the establishment of a secular democracy that serves the will of all Iranian citizens.

  • The ADFI is not a “shadow government” and has drafted the “Mahsa Charter” closely with activists inside Iran.

  • The alliance welcomes anyone who shares their expected values.

Following the death of Mahsa Jina Amini, Iranians worldwide have asked prominent opposition figures to join forces. For this reason, the formation of the ADFI has been widely welcomed.
